Rayhana Akhlaq, chef de cuisine

Twenty-three years ago, my husband and I fled Afghanistan. I got a job as soon as we arrived here in the Netherlands and I have been with Visymo since 2021. The atmosphere is great here. Everyone is equal; I almost struggle to find the words to describe it. This is like nothing I ever experienced!

I make lunch for the people at Visymo four days per week. At first, they were not used to my style of cooking. Everything was too spicy for them and they didn't like to eat so many vegetables. Now, they love everything I make for them and I try to come up with something new every day.

‘Where do you get all your delicious ideas,’ they often ask. Many of my recipes are inspired by Afghan cuisine, but I always make sure to ask people what they do and don't like. Of course, I take people's preferences into account. Many people love my fried eggs the most, especially when I serve them with turmeric, potatoes, ginger, onion and tomatoes. I also make sure everyone eats plenty of vegetables. I want my food to be as healthy as it is delicious.
